Most of us can only dream of owning a Lotus, and the marque’s aspirational credentials have been added to this month as it scooped a prestigious award.
The carmaker was named ‘Luxury Brand of the Year’ at the annual Luxury Briefing Awards 2019, which took place at a special gala ceremony at London’s The Savoy hotel.
Revolutionary and disruptive vehicles
It wasn’t just other car designers that it triumphed over either, as this accolade covers brands across a range of sectors and is chosen by the organisation’s board of directors.
Revealing Lotus as the winner, chairman of Luxury Briefing Sir Eric Peacock said the board felt this is a brand that has “revolutionised and disrupted its sector” with innovation and repositioning.
Chief executive of Lotus cars Phil Popham said: “To be recognised and honoured as a luxury brand at this stage of our journey is a fantastic achievement.”
Other brands to be recognised at the awards included Princess Yachts, Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason, while contenders in the automobile industry included Aston Martin and Bentley.
Earlier this year, Lotus announced an all-new sports car for 2020 to join the existing Evora, Elise, and Exige. It said the vehicle will retain Lotus’s famed driving dynamics, but will be more practical and suitable for everyday use.
Everyday, that is, if you happen to also be the proud owner of a very large bank balance.
Steve Clarke, marketing manager at Drivers Club News, comments: “We’ve been lusting after Lotus vehicles since the 1970s when James Bond drove them, and it seems that luxury reputation has never really gone away. This is a deserved win for an exceptional brand.”
