McLaren excels in GT Series opener

April 12, 2016driversclub

Top tier racing is one of our passions here in the Petrol News office and we always love it when a new season gets underway in one of our favourite disciplines.

The GT Series offers all the excitement that anyone could wish for, while having the added bonus that some of the most breathtaking cars on the planet are regularly taking part. So, imagine our happiness when the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup opener was held in Italy this weekend.

British racing marque McLaren were able to garner a welcome boost in the race standings, with a double points result for the McLaren 650S GT3 a highlight of the race weekend.

One of the most stunning racers in any field, we just love the striking lines and downright ferocious power of the GT3, so it was with great pleasure that we saw McLaren factory drivers Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente pick up valuable points.

The Audi R8 LMS team of Frederic Vervisch and Laurens Vanthoor were eventual first-place finishers in the opening race of the series, but with the event now moving on to Brands Hatch at the start of May, the competition remains wide open for the whole of the field.

So, stay tuned for more updates from one of our favourite formulas, and with the season just kicking off, we'll be sure to keep you updated as the races and excitement of sprint GT unfolds!
