Revised VW Golf goes on sale

April 12, 2017driversclub

Volkswagen has taken a major step towards moving on from its ‘Dieselgate’ emissions scandal after the revised and updated Golf entered UK showrooms this week.

The ever-popular family hatchback now comes with larger, more advanced touchscreens, ever so slightly refreshed styling and an all-new petrol engine.

Visual tweaks comprise the addition of LED running lights at the front and full LED lights at the rear, as well as reprofiled front and rear bumpers to give the Golf a more mature exterior, while new body colours and alloy wheel designs cap off the aesthetic changes.

Heading under the bonnet, buyers can now opt for a new 1.5-litre turbocharged EVO engine that deactivates cylinders when they’re not required, a move designed to help save fuel. This petrol unit is available as a 128bhp Bluemotion or with 148bhp.

As part of a blanket tech upgrade, infotainment touchscreens now come as standard with every new Golf.

The screens are now larger across the whole range, with the most basic example being at least eight-inches wide. There’s also a 9.2-inch system, which features voice control and gesture control amongst a range of other functions and features. This makes it the first compact car in the world to include gesture control.

If all this isn’t enough to tempt you then the new Golf is being offered with a £1,000 deposit contribution at 4.9 per cent APR representative for customers taking advantage of a Volkswagen Financial Services’ Solutions Personal Contract Plan.

Stephen Hasley, brand manager at Petrol News, adds: “The Golf has remained a big seller, even throughout the recent emissions scandal. With these new changes, we reckon it will continue to be one of the most sought-after hatchbacks on the market.”
