Tesla‘s Model 3 has been named this year’s recipient of the prestigious UK Car of the Year Award – winning by a single vote.
It overcame some impressive competition to bag the title, including entries such as the Bentley Flying Spur, BMW 3 Series, Mazda3 and the Porsche Taycan.
A worthy winner of Car of the Year
“Game-changer is an often-overused phrase, but the Tesla Model 3 has shaken up the executive segment and got many brands thinking,” commented John Challen, director of the UK Car of the Year Awards.
Describing the features that made the Tesla a standout winner in the eyes of many judges, Top Gear’s Tom Ford said the model is simply clean, crisp and packed full of the technology that makes it a pleasure to drive.
Judge Chris Knapman from CarGurus added: “The Model 3 is thoughtfully packaged, brilliant to drive, and packed with features that make for not only a great car but an exciting ownership experience.”
Now in its seventh year, the UK Car of the Year Awards saw nine of the county’s best cars go head-to-head to be crowned champion, with each of the entrants having overcome their competitors to win in classes ranging from Best Performance Vehicle to Best Estate.
Amy King, SEO and Social Manager at Drivers Club News, comments: “It was a close-run contest with just a single vote pushing the Model 3 into top position, but we have to admit it’s a fantastic vehicle and worthy to be named Car of the Year 2020.”
