Vauxhall finally reveals new fifth-gen Corsa
June 27, 2019driversclub
Vauxhall has at last revealed the images and specifications of its brand new, fifth-generation Corsa, something that is sure to delight fans of the hugely popular car.
However, you’re going to have to wait a little while longer to get your hands on one, as deliveries to showrooms won’t start until next April.
A new and updated Corsa for 2020
Vauxhall has been teasing us with information about this car for some time, with Drivers Club reporting back in May that the vehicles had been completing extreme winter weather testing in Lapland.
Now, the full details have been revealed – and it looks like not too much has changed visually, with the exception of fancier alloy wheel designs.
This time, the improvements seem to be under the bonnet, with the new model featuring high-efficiency petrol and diesel powertrains so every variant emits less carbon dioxide than ever before.
There are two petrol engines on offer: an entry-level 1.2-litre unit and a three-cylinder, direct-injection, turbocharged 1.2-litre all-aluminium powertrain (now there’s a mouthful).
Also available is a1.5-litre diesel offering 100PS and 250Nm maximum torque, with Vauxhall pointing out this and the overall lighter weight should boost handling and general sportiness.
You also won’t be short on safety features if you invest in the new Corsa, as numerous assistance systems are built in. You’ll find front collision warning, automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, not to mention intelligent speed control, lane keep assist and traffic sign recognition.
Inside, the cabin remains much the same as those of its predecessors, although the infotainment system has been revamped. There’s a multimedia radio, navigation with real-time traffic information on a seven-inch touchscreen, and a direct link to breakdown assistance and the emergency services.
Another feature Vauxhall seems to be especially proud of is the new adaptive, glare-free headlights, which it says are usually only found on premium cars and previously debuted on the Astra and Insignia.
There’s no information on pricing just yet, but first deliveries are expected to begin in April 2020.
Jess Wort, marketing manager at Drivers Club News, comments: “We expect this fifth-generation Vauxhall Corsa to prove just as popular with UK buyers as those before it. Now comes the long wait for fans keen to upgrade!”
